I love it! Elina is a great model, à la Angelina Jolie, but still, her face is great and she can look completely different on every photoshoot.

This is gorgeouss

I agree. It's stunning.

Go 'Lina! She looks sexy here!
Michelle&AmandaBabin   [Feb 04, 2009 at 07:27 PM]
Hate this. She looks short and meaty in this picture, and I have no idea what her facial expression says here.
Mycatjewel   [Feb 04, 2009 at 07:32 PM]
Her pose is tacky I think.

^^the modleing world is so fcked up...... why do you have to be "tall" to look like a model, most people arent THAT tall.
david18   [Feb 05, 2009 at 02:29 AM]
Clothes simply look better on tall people. It's not something anyone in the modeling industry "came up with". Tall people have always been admired. Don't put words in the fashion industry's mouth.
Jesse_Dillon   [Feb 05, 2009 at 02:34 AM]
Thats not putting words in their mouth when they blantantly say to girls "YOUR TO SHORT TO BE A MODEL". And that sorta like false advertisment, so what if the clothes look great on super tall girls, but most girls ARENT that tall, so shouldnt they see what the clotheslook like on sumone their height/ size?? I think so
david18   [Feb 05, 2009 at 02:37 AM]
??? jesse, it's simply not that easy. Let's say we banish all requirements for models. Now anyone can model. Plus-sized, morbidly obese, 5'2, 7'4, you name it, they can model. Time for a runway show. Girls go to racks of dresses. Try on dresses. Guess what? They don't fit. Sample sizes. Made for a specific body type. It makes the job of the designer a hell of a lot easier, versus having to make a short dress that won't be too long for the short model, a big dress that won't be too tight for the big model, or a long dress that won't be too short for the giant model. The designer doesn't have time to make all these custom garments. It simply wouldn't work out.

Other reasons? Designers don't want models to outshine their clothes (minus supermodels who bring popularity to them). If you ever watch real runway shows, you'll notice the girls seem more or less the same height and have similar styling with hair or makeup. If you have fifteen girls with vast differences in height, it'll be harder for the customer to notice the clothing first.

Height is something that makes models especially intriguing. Because they are tall, unlike the average person, it makes them stand out. I'm pretty sure that you would more likely look at a 5'11 girl walking down the street versus the 5'2 girl walking next to her. Fashion is sometimes about an escape from the ordinary. High-fashion anyway.

Ever heard of petite-size modeling?
Jesse_Dillon   [Feb 05, 2009 at 02:49 AM]
I guess thats true. and no i havent.
david18   [Feb 05, 2009 at 02:53 AM]
Glad to see you understand. This is a great example that can also extend as to why there are usually only regular and plus-sized models in the industry.

Petite-size modeling is basically modeling for shorter women. It's not high-fashion, but more catalogue and commercial. Like Anne Klein petite stores, or such specialty shops usually have petite models in their ad campaigns. But height won't stand in the way of any model who wants it badly enough. Prime example? Kate Moss. The woman is 5'5 (?) and works runways and ad campaigns non-stop.

Plus, aiming for different markets could work as well. Height isn't nearly as important in Los Angeles as it is in New York, and the designers are a bit more forgiving to shorter girls and guys. Or perhaps foreign countries where people are generally shorter. It's all about knowing your career path.

I wouldn't dish on whitney and others if I didn't have a fair amount of knowledge about the industry. But yes, I'm a nerd for this type of silly propaganda.
Jesse_Dillon   [Feb 05, 2009 at 03:04 AM]
